Overview:

On Friday, (01/31/2003), Ed Rosenthal, the popular author of "Ask Ed" and many books on Marijuana cultivation, was convicted by a jury, in federal court, and could potentially receive 85 years in prison when he is sentenced this June.  We at NAC want to put the blame right where it belongs -- at the feet of President Bush and Congress.  Both are ignoring the wishes of the 80% of Americans who want adults to have access to Medical Marijuana.  We are intent on building consensus, amongst drug reform organizations, that Marijuana Re-Legalization for Adults is an achievable goal if we all work together.  While "incremental" measures (e.g., Medical Marijuana) certainly have merit, we are asking that endorsement of the "Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy (MRP)" become a new litmis test for "serious" drug reform organizations.  We want to achieve Marijuana Re-Legalization within the next decade, not the next millenium.  And we want it done in a way that both gauruntees the preservation of our liberties and satisfies the deepest wishes of the activist community, who have worked so very hard over the past decades.

To this end we are promoting the First International "420" Protest Against the Bush War on Marijuana on  Sunday April 20, 2003 at 4:20 PM, everywhere.  At the very least we expect activists to individually observe "420" by driving with their headlamps on all day and to beep their car horns at 4:20 PM.  If we really get lucky we will get national news coverage which will depict the protesters as directly calling for an end to Bush's War on Marijuana.

Encapsulated description of the "Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy" (MRP):

"The most important aspect to any reform in Cannabis law needs to minimally allow non-commercial cultivation, by adults above the age of 18, to be done without any form of government taxation or interference."

The MRP Project will encompass all of the activities required to gain acceptance and implementation of the policy into law.  The first phase of the project is to get feedback from both activists and the general public.  This will be followed by getting feedback from some of the more noted activists and drug reform organizations.

If you would like to provide feedback, on your impressions "Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy" (MRP), please send to  "newagecitizenx@comcast.net" and just type "MRP" into the subject field.   I will be sharing these viewpoints in future eLetters and at the NAC website.

Promoting the first International "420" Protest on Sunday, April 20th, 2003 to put an end to President Bush's War on Marijuana

We will be contacting hundreds of drug reform organizations in the coming weeks to get the word out on this "happening."   This letter is being sent out to all of the MMM organizers who we hope will find the time to promote and participate in this event.

The purpose of this event is to demand that President Bush and Congress both adopt the Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy (MRP) and grant immediate clemency to Ed Rosenthal and all of the Medical Marijuana Growers that have been swept up in Bush's Medical Marijuana Inquisition.

We are calling on individuals and groups to show symbolic support Re-Legalization on 04/20 by engaging in at least 5 minutes of spontaneous civil disobedience at 4:20 PM.  This can include, but is not limited to: (1) toggling headlamps on and off; (2) beeping horns; (3) doing chinese fire drills at traffic stops; (4) gathering at DEA offices, City Halls and outside of Police Stations.  The structure of this event should allow both groups and individuals to participate with the least amount of inconvenience.  Downloadable flyers and event submission is already set up at the following page:
